I came away from Molineux last night asking the question, are Wolves up for a relegation fight? on that performance, no chance at all!
One thing that was lacking in the opening ten minutes or so was the delivery from free-kicks and corners, often over hit. Only Stearman's header at the far post going anywhere near. Wolves up until Robinson's sending off rarely got the ball down and tried to pass it around, again resorting to the long ball down field. Blues at least tried to keep it simple, back up any punt down field and had fight in their side. Like him or loathe him, David Davis summed up Blues, battled for every loose ball, but also tried to get attacks going for his team.
I've said this before on here, we can all make make excuses when a forward misses a chance, and he often gets one, but as a keeper, Ikeme's clanger started the ball rolling, it was a routine cross that i expect him to take 99.9% of the time. The goal lifted Blues and one became two, excellent strike by Davis, but again one where his run wasn't tacked.
It was good to see Dicko come on for Saville for the start of the second half, at least giving Wolves another option up top. The Robinson sending off gave Wolves hope, but Blues still looked dangerous on the counter-attack. Wolves at least tried to get the ball down and created openings, but for Kuszczak, Dicko would have pulled one back with his header. I was happy that Dicko finally got on the scoresheet, but it wasn't enough. Doherty and Batth also with chances.
The damage for me was done in the first half, and to only make one change in the game is questionable. All remaining league games are cup-finals now!
